For a completely original approach to how all the Disney classics went, artist Sakimi Chan decided to do a complete set of gender bent Disney characters. I personally love Ariel and Pocahontas. What is your favorite one?
Seeing the characters in their new gender roles surprisingly changes everything. I mean, obviously it changes everything but the surprising way is how. "Colors of the Wind" seemed strong and masculine when sung by a Native American woman, yet the same lyrics seem more sensitive and insightful coming from a man who is equally in touch with nature.
No one would be afraid for male Ariel (which is an androgynous name already btw) if he went to extreme lengths to woo a human girl- it would be a heroic quest. But female Ariel looks borderline crazy throwing herself at a complete stranger just because he's handsome. (I mean, theres more to it than that, but not a ton more.) Oh and Cruela looks AMAZING and super badass as a guy but as a woman, the premise behind her character is so bad it's funny.
