Thanks to the awesome vintage photos section of imagineeringdisney.com I stumbled upon these photos scattered throughout several posts and I suddenly remembered where my fear of drowning came from. Or at least that's what I assume seeing as how i had to hold my breath when flipping through these- 20K Leagues Under the Sea will always come back to haunt me I guess.
For those of you who don't know, the Magic Kingdom used to actually put people into these terrifying contraptions and stick them under water. Like all the way under water. There, from a dirty plexiglass window you could watch a shark fighting an octopus, a poor deep sea diver trying not to DIE and i'm pretty sure there were also creepy mermaids. Obviously most people had positive reactions to the 20K Leagues Under the Sea but seeing as how I was barely doing math yet when I first went on it i only have vague horror movie-esque flashbacks. Not surprisingly, they look just like these vintage photos. KILL IT WITH FIRE.
