why splash mountain is the most racist theme park ride ever

Ever notice how Disney has been making movies with backstories for all of it's original and "un-themed" rides? Like the great Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise or the absolutely terrible Haunted Mansion movie? You might be saying to yourslef, "but Splash Mountain is one of the most beloved theme park rides of all! Why doesn't it have a storyline or movie?" That's because it does, and it is terribly racist.

The story features Uncle Remus, an ex-slave singing happy diddies {Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, anyone?) to small white children and telling them stories about his slave days.

There are no legal DVDs of the short musical film anywhere, as it has become quite an embarrassment over the years to the Disney Company, but it is all over the internet and especially Youtube.

One of the worst things about Splash Mountain's use of the characters? the portrayal of brier rabbit "running away" or escaping from home and being punished for it. (runaway slave references can be found all over the ride!!!) Not to mention the racist and stereotypical southern way that the characters speak.

Sick of Liberal race baiting

Song of the South is not 'racist'. Seeing as it was made A LONG TIME AGO maybe there are some less than PC things -but overall its more people like you starting trouble.
Slavery is an unfortunate part of our past. We have people who bought & sold slaves, just like the Africans bought & sold slaves, this portrays that time.
When the little boy who's troubled because he knows there's something going on with his parents (they're seperated), he goes to play with the children in the slave quarters BECAUSE HE'S NOT RACIST & when he's there he meets a WISE OLD MAN who teaches him thru colorful, childlike stories.
How the f*%£ IS THAT RACIST?
God -you liberals cause so many problems.

No it's you that are the problem, this movie isn't around because it's been put on permanent hiatus on video due to DISNEY during the CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT, are you going to say that that was liberal race baiting?

Not to mention that plenty of people back then found that it was racist including the NAACP because it took out plenty of aspects of the original story that were unpleasant and even the original folk songs that blacks would have sung and made everything sanitized which yes is RACIST.

Also f you for equating blacks who bought and sold slaves to whites who bought and sold slaves when A) it's a straw man argument, B) You clearly lack any understanding of the history or context behind why that happened, or C) how that still doesn't excuse or make any difference in whites doing it to blacks or the racial segregation and racist behavior that happened post abolition.

You are just a racist who is trying to find a boogeyman to blame for the things you believe and the things you like not being okay to believe and like.

If you can't how co-opting fairy tale stories that slaves used to tale to each other and their kids in order to help deal with the harsh conditions that they used to live in in order to make a animated musical where everything is hunky dory and then not use any of those profits to benefit any of the people who were being affected by slavery or it's after affects is not racist (the actor couldn't even attend the premiere because no hotel would serve him). Then you are part of the problem. If you think people having issues with these things is some new SJW/liberal thing because you are just now hearing about them and that they have not always had a problem with it then you are part of the problem.

Social Justice and liberalism got us Civil RIghts and slaves being free in the first place. PC culture has always been a thing and people like you have always been complaining about it.

We are a Disney-loving family. We have close family non-white friends that we share many recreational and spiritual activities with. We’ve asked them how they feel about the ride (including our African American friends and their kids), and they with their children have loved the ride as much as we, but feel that the insensitive reference to the old south should be addressed. We hope that when the renovations are completed, there will be modifications that eliminate any possibly offensive features. We all agree that it is a beloved part of all our childhoods, we would not be glad to see it eliminated altogether.

Certainly it is impossible to please everyone, and in attempting to do so it tends to please no one. If the ride is eliminated, so be it.

I’m a descendent of Robert E. Lee...so what? It’s not a point of pride, just history. You can take all those statues of him down for all I care. He himself didn’t want to be memorialized in such a way. He said something like “Hey, we lost! Get over it, time to move on. There is nothing honorable here”. I say take them down and store them somewhere. I’d like to believe that America can learn from it’s mistakes and grow stronger and wiser, even though we’re on a bit of a detour at the moment.

Hello, Alfreda here! I am an Orlando native...Disney World isn't just about princesses and fairies. There is a dark underbelly hidden under all the glitter. I am absolutely crazy about it!
